Bedding in brakes?

Just had new brakes fitted and i've never had to bed them in before.

Been looking up on guides etc and just been out and done 8 70-30 half pressure stops.

Now is it normal for new brakes to grate/grind/judder? (not sure on the correct term or how to describe it)

I've never had new brakes grind before myself.

They just normally don't offer the performance they should for a little while because of a protective coating.

Juddering is bad, did you replace the disks too?

Grinding like noises can be heard initially, but should subside quickly.

Just be light on the pedal for the 1st 300 miles.

Actually I wouldn't class it as juddering. The wheel stays perfectly still so it's not like warped discs. I changed both pads and discs. I'm actually pretty confident the grinding is just the disc slipping but what do i know :p

Will now go easy for a while and see if it improves.

I hope that doesn't mean these 70 to 30 efforts were hard braking?

I vaguely remember reading a bedding in guide somewhere that recommended this.

I thought also the EBC guide stated something along these lines but what I've found on their site does say to go easy at first.

You can get racing pads which are designed to bed in fast with hard braking, usually on drilled or grooved disks, but road pads need an easy time for the 1st 300 miles.

new discs and pads? or just pads?

to bed in brakes you should use them gently, like, slow down normally. not brake hard from 70-30 over and over lol

the sound you hear from them is like a BRRRRRRRRRR sound when you brake hard, means your discs and pads are overheating, keep that up and you will warp the discs and be stuck with brakes that feel horrible. or is it too late and you have got a bit of brake judder now? feels funny through the steering and pedal? :D:D:D:D

Half pressure.

As said, they slipped/grinded right from the start with was my initial question whether that was normal.

Even after some 70-30 stops it's slightly better now and could feel it gripping more each time and the steering stays perfectly stable under braking so it can't be warped discs.

With normal OE pads I tend to go gentle on them, and try to ensure there is no prolonged braking required.

With uprated pads I tend to follow specific manufacturers instructions, which normally come in the pad box. Pagid pads like some 90 - 50 stuff, with time to cool, then some faster 110 - 30 stuff (Yes this isn't possible on a normal road) with varying degrees of pressure.

As for the grinding, must be something between the pad's surface and the disc. Could well be the new pads aligning the surface with that of the disc, i.e the lip etc
