Been 3 years since my last build, what is it like today?

Hey guys,

Had a PC built 3 years ago as per the title, with the following specs:

Lightning 7970
750W Antec PSU (I think that's what I remember it being)
MSI P67A-G45 Motherboard
8GB Standard Corsair RAM
i5 SB OCd to 4.5Ghz cooled by a Silver Arrow
1TB HDD (Samsung, before the HDD floods)
128GB SSD

Since it has been three years now, I'm looking to upgrade pretty much everything. The things before put me at a budget of around a grand, which did great even until now. However, I've been a bit out of the loop. What would it be like today if I upgraded everything into roughly the same price bracket?

Well, I was definitely thinking of changing the cooler to one of those Corsair kits, mainly because while the Silver Arrow is pretty nice, it does cover most of my RAM slots and I was hoping to upgrade to at least 16GB, for DAW reasons.

I'm not looking to buy right away, I was just seeing what I should be looking out for in the coming months.
