Hi guys its been a while since I have posted in general hardware and im actually after some advice.

Its my 22nd birthday at the end of the month and im looking at getting a few bits for the PC (just because i can) I use the PC for gaming/internet browsing/general PC use.

I currently have the following:

Asus Striker 2 forumla Motherboard
4GB Corsair Dominator (2x2GB) DDR2 XMS2 PC2-8500C5
XFX GTX 280 XT Graphics Card
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 LGA775 'Wolfdale' "Overclocking E0 Stepping" 3.33GHz (1333FSB)
Noctua NH-U12P CPU Cooler
Coolermaster Real Power 850w Modular Power Supply
Antec 900 Case
22" Viewsonic HD monitor
Logitech G5 and a Razer Tarantula keyboard
Icemat Siberia Headset

My questions are as follows really:

Would it be worth it to upgrade to 8GB's of ram seeing as DDR2 is so cheap now? Would the 8GB run at full 1066? As i have heard (here and there) that some people claim they cannot get it to run at full speeds when running 8GB etc?

The hard drives i am running on are pants. Would it be worthwhile getting 2x samsung spinpoint F1's (500GB's or 1TB's) and running a raid setup for better speeds or what?

Any advise will help really as to a potential upgrade for a bit of birthday cash.

Not sure 8GB is worth it, I've only got 4 but most ever in use is around 70%.

I'd get an SSD to put the OS on and keep your old drives for storage, that would be a nice little boost. Rest of the system all looks pretty good :)

I'd dump the 280 and go for the cheaper 275 or 4890 and swap the Intel chip for an AMD Phenom II 955 black edition with the subsequent motherboard and ram changes that would need.

He's already got the 280.. that's a bit more than a cheap birthday upgrade ;)

SSD if your happy with the price would be an improvement, as stated above if you put your OS on to it. As for the 8gb i personally wouldn't i dont think you would get any substantiol gain. The F1's are good Hd's also worth thinking about as a cheaper option and more storage of course:)

You have a good system with regards to how you use it, if hd's are poor improve them according to your budget.

That is hardily much of an upgrade seeing as the core 2 I have is perfect for gaming etc.... but thanks for the input

Yeah im thinking hard drives might be the only noticeable upgrade that's worth doing at the moment. The system is punchy as it is but i just know the only thing holding it back the the hard drive. Solid state is a little to expensive with the respect of £>GB.

Yeah SSD is expensive at the moment look at the other harddrives then as a small performance boost, what hd's are you currently running on? unless im blind and missed them in your original post:rolleyes:

Nah I have not written then in the first post

Im currently running my OS on this:

320G WD SATA2 HDD WD3200AAKS

No RAID or anything just a single drive.
