Ok, been away from PC gaming for a while and would like to know what are the must have games for any PC Gamer and why?

Some great suggestions here guys :) just watched footage for Witcher 3 on YouTube.... Wow, definitely in the list.
Love the concept of PuBG as well and Doom, I used to play the original a few years ago ;)

Might be a stupid question, just seen GOG for the first time when searching so GOG or Steam?

GOG is fairly limited in products as it's simply for one developers games. Steam has a much batter library and options so I'd say steam even for witcher 3

I use GOG unless I can't get the game there, I tolerate steam.

Prefer my games DRM free. So I can share them with those I care about to spread the joy of gaming.

Resident evil 7
Witcher 3
Dark souls 3
Battlefield 1
Player unknowns battlegrounds
Ori and the blind forest
Inside
Total war Warhammer

Dying Light - free running zombie smacking game with multiplayer so can enjoy with friends
Borderlands - crazy FPS game with a bazillion guns. BL2 is far funnier than 1 IMO, but tastes vary. Also good with friends.
Don't Starve - Survival game that will kill you many many ways most of which are not you starving. Don't Starve Together is also available for co-op but has nothing from the Don't Starve Shipwrecked DLC.
TES Skyrim - Shout at dragons, explore, kill stuff with magic/swords/arrows/physics. Lots of mods available to expand the game. There's a few story lines too...
Factorio - Logistics game. Seems odd when you look at it, but it's a fun game if that's your type of game. Warning! Factorio has Time Sink technology built it, you will find your first go at the game will end 20 years after you started it.....

It depends really what genres you like, and how long you've not played games for. I'd add Mass Effect Trilogy (each of the 3 games play differently) and Portal 1+2 if you've not touched them.

Eh? You should take another look at GoG ;)

I generally go for steam but won't pay a premium if it's cheaper elsewhere. GOG does a great job.

And yeah, definitely Witcher 3! Oh and Papers Please, and Civ V. A lot of people prefer V to VI plus it's often on sale silly cheap with all the DLC (which is needed)

Here's a few different games to what's been said so far:

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth - Very addictive rogue-like game with lots of replay-ability and randomness as you complete levels and unlock new items.
Europa Universalis IV - I see this as the gold standard of grand strategy titles, it's extremely time consuming as you conquer the world but a successful game can be very satisfying.
Just Cause 3 - If you like the idea of gliding around in a wing suit and blowing lots of things up then this'll be the game for you.
Projects Cars/Dirt Rally - Two of the better racing games out at the moment.
Rocket League - There's just something insanely fun about cars playing a football style game.

Also agree with The Witcher 3 and PUBG, both are excellent games.

Steam isn't just a store front, it's a social platform as well. When you get into PC gaming then Steam is the equivalent of XBox Live or PS Network. Steam is synonymous with PC gaming.

There are lots of store fronts to buy PC games and a lot of them have their own social platform too. You can't chat to people on Steam through EAs Origin for instance.

It doesn't cost anything to sign up to these services, so sign up for them all. Steam, GOG, Origin, uPlay (maybe not haha)
