Been away for years...i need help

Hi Guys

Been away for a few years, last time i was around a P4 3.2Ghz EE (which i still have) was the dogs!

I am now in the process of looking to upgrade but so confused with all the ram timing etc now.

I have so far gone for this, please note my available dosh is limited to around 250ish, 300 at a push (will have to negotiate with the mrs!)

This is what i have selected. I am unsure if the ram will work with this board or if it is the fastest available. The pc will not be used for gaming, got the ps3 for that, this is for power apps/decoding etc really as i always remote d to it.

I have a good case from a while back, and a dvd rw, sata2 drive so not required.

I am also unsure if the retail means it will come with a cooler for the psu.

the q8200 isnt that great can you find a q6600 for about same price?

no fraid i cant really stretch the extra 50, do the parts match though? unsure if the rma will work with that board or the cpu comes with a retail cooler?

will the amd cpu give the same performance? I have a thing with AMD chips, never used them since the old athlon 1.2ghz.

Am i missing something, both those cpu's have a higher clock speed however from performance results, they dont match the q8200?

think im going to have to go with the Q8200, i see no benefit over the AMD cpu's.

Can someone please let me know if retail means i get a stock cpu cooler and also if that ram will work with that board? Im really stuck with these questions before i purchase!

I have 2 blue ram slot next to each other and 2 black ones next to each other. On my p4 if i wanted dual i had to install 1 in 1 blue and 1 in the corresponding black. When i do that with this, it shows up as dual channel and with a timing of 9-9-9-24. When i install the 2 sticks in the 2 blue slots (right next to each other) it finds it as dual but timings are 8-8-8-24 so im a bit confused. Can anyone help, had a look on some sites but no idea!
