hi all i have been given a old packard bell imedia 1517 the guy said he wants it cleaned up so i was thinking fresh install of xp pro and all the drivers off the website what do you think will this do the trick or not because its made my packard bell.

So depending on how much RAM it has (or that you can add), yep, i would just slap XP on it. What you planning to do with it?
 
its just going to be used for web browsing and pictures and usual office and work stuff im in a bit of a pickle because my xp cd has got a huge gouge in it ARGHHHHHH

As long as you have a valid CD key (probably on a sticker on the case somewhere), you can use any XP CD. As long as the CD and the CD key type match up (XP Pro or Home), you're laughing. If you can't find one or borrow one, just download one. The key is the important bit :)
