I was going to wait a while before I got a headset. I was too torn between whether to get a Rift or a Vive and was worried about not having enough room for it in my current flat. But after being unable to sleep tonight and reading through some of the posts on this forum, I thought to hell with it, I'll order a rift! So I've just ordered one :D thanks to you guys for helping me make my mind up and thanks to Paypal for deeming me worthy of credit haha. Can't wait.

Welcome to VR mate! Set up your oculus account up now and and keep an eye on the 24 hour winter sales,2 games get heavily discounted and they change at 6pm, unfortunately you have missed some great sales but you still have a few days left. Also Steam have a great sale on too.
If you have a small player area, you may to get away without the need on paying for an additional sensor for 360 room scale games (which make VR sooo much better, turning your body in VR is much better than snap or smooth turning with a button or stick, it kills the immersion for me) it could be worth looking at getting a long usb extenders for the arrival of your Rift.

Edit: Have you downloaded and ran the oculus compatibility tool from oculus’s website??? The oculus rift is VERY fussy about USB’s if you haven’t, please do so ASAP, there’s very good chance you may need a pcie USB adapter, (inatech 4 port from the ‘rain forest’) I don’t want you to be as disappointed as I was when my baby came!

Nice, thanks for the heads-up, I hadn't even thought of doing that. Just ran the compatibility tool and I'm good to go :) now will be browsing the oculus store shortly!

Got my Rift yesterday... It's absolutely incredible. Still haven't really played much of anything apart from Superhot; that's definitely my favourite game for it so far. I've showed it to two female friends who don't even play games and they were equally astounded, and then I had my dad round tonight and he told me it was one of the most amazing experiences he's ever had in his life. I don't think he's wrong either... I've already punched a clothes horse by straying just ever so slightly out of my playzone. I've tried to rest my arm on a concrete wall in game forgetting that there wasn't anything actually there.
The part where you are required to "prove your dedication" by walking off the edge of a skyscraper... I actually was too hesitant to take the step forward. Then when I did fall off (pushed off?) I actually freaked out a bit while I was falling.
You really do feel transported to another world. Best purchase I've made in a long time.

The other day I was crouching behind a low wall for cover in From Other Suns, and when I defeated the enemy I went to put my hand on the (non existent!) wall to help me stand up (stiff knees), before I realised it wasn't really there. It really is that immersive.

Had my rift at Christmas I was the same, the demo with the robot was amazing already spent £300+ on games. I just need to get rid of one of my children and turn a bedroom into a vr room lol.

Haha! I had to rearrange my bedroom and turn my bed 90 degrees in order to get a still quite small play area. Told my girlfriend about an hour ago I needed to invest in a narrower bed to increase the play area further still. She didn't see the funny side :D

I need to sort out my VR space as well, started removing all my bookshelves from my office last weekend (3 more to go) to increase floor space... tempted to also change my desk for something I can partly collapse to make even more space.

Eventually I'd like to move my VR setup down to the living room so I can have more room to move around, but realistically that means having a dedicated Gaming PC for downstairs which would be a tad expensive. Currently I'm doing VR in the attic which isn't ideal as the sloping ceilings result in bashing the controllers occasionally when reaching up to grab/block, despite being in the guardian area. I can move a step in most directions, but mostly I have to stand still and use stick movement to make sure I don't bash into things. Still having a great time though, and of course seated VR using a steering wheel or Hotas doesn't suffer from those restrictions and are more convenient with a desktop PC.

I know exactly what you mean. I think my (soon to be) sister in law nailed it, when after showing her the Rift Demo, she said 'the human mind is so easy to fool.'

I have my PC behind my living room TV, not too noticeable, but I do intend on building a beast rig inside a node 202 this year (and re use my existing rig to mine, don’t judge mining will buy me my VR games this year!), that will slot nicely inside a media cabinet and be completely ‘women proof’, now if only oculus could release an in expensive wireless headset addon and release wireless sensors, or at least mains connected like the Vive’s I’ll be a happy man indeed.

Glad your loving VR! It’s absolutely incredible

I would wait 10 years then buy the hardware 2nd hand on ebay for under a hundred and all the games for penny's after the vr scene wears off and dies out.

In ten years hopefully we’ll have full haptic suits and the headsets will be the size of sunglasses

This, in 10 years time mobile phones will be a thing of the past and every one will be walking around with sun glass sized vr/mobile devices strapped to their heads :D

This, only we wont be walking around, we'll be lying in tanks of goop, and big brother will be crypto mining on the 80% of our brain we're not using to "work" in whatever vr experience is flavour of the month. :p
