Havent looked at buying new hardware in well over 2 years so am really out of the game, just done little upgrades to my rig. Have recently come into some money so have decided that I am going to sell my current rig and buy a brand new computer. I have a budget of between 1000-1400, 1500 being my absolute maximum if the gear is right for me.

What I use my PC for:
Music
I love music and my computer is my stereo, currently with an audigy 2zs matched up with my logitech 5.1 450w speakers. Now I find these speakers are perfect for me and I really don't need to upgrade these, the sound card is pretty good, but if there is something that is better at a reasonable price I would like it.

Gaming
I enjoy a bit of gaming when I have the chance, mainly running World of Warcraft, and do a lot of end game raiding in it, with a pretty extensive ui on it which uses a load of resources, currently using a radeon x1950 AGP card, I would like to now upgrade this to a PCI-E card for that extra performance. I also run games like battlefield 2 and would like to be playing some more recent games.

Business/Security
This isnt a major issue, I am smart enough to be able to secure my own files!

Current rig
Is probably useful for you to know what I have and what I plan on keeping, anything in blue i dont really want to upgrade from unless there is something that you can suggest which is going to blow my mind!

CPU: Pentium 4 2.6c
Mobo: Asus P4C800-E deluxe
RAM: 1gig XMS 4400 Corsair
Harddrives: 2 x Western Digital Cavalier 80gb IDE Drives
1 x Western Digital 160gb SATA II 16mb cache

PSU: Akasa Paxpower 460w
GFX: Sapphire Radeon x1950 512mb AGP
Sound: Creative Audigy 2 ZS
Logitech 5.1 450W speakers
Keyboard + Mouse: Logitech DiNovo Desktop
Monitor: 2 x Hitachi 17" 16ms LCD (about 4 years old now, but still absoloutely amazing)

I will need a case for this PC, I am a fan of black cases to match the rest of my set up and nothing to fancy, currently have the old coolermaster blackwidow.. not to fussed about a window or anything, just as long as it has a nice amount of space. Liking the look of the lian li full tower aluminium fellas at the moment. Cables, I have plenty of so I don't need to worry about those either.

If there is any more information you need I will post it up!

Thanks in advance guys!

Try this on for size:

Quad core processor, fantastic power supply, the best case there is, great cooler, very fast GPU, new fast chipset, excellent sound card, and two GiB RAM. It should fly for most anything.

The dual PCI-e 16x slot mobo is so you can use the cheapo 2nd graphics card to run your extra monitors. The idea is that you put the 22" monitor in the center with your excellent 17" models at either side. It should be great for multitasking productivity. If you decide you don't want to get the large monitor nix it along with the 2nd graphics card.

EDIT: Now you should sell me your X1950. ;)

EDIT2: If you wanted to save some money you could certainly hang on to your current sound card. If you wanted to spend more you could get a WD AAKS hard disk or two for fast loading times.

Highly recommend new SATA HDs instead of the IDE ones & also changing/upgrading the monitor(s). TFT's have come a long way (see here)!

Assuming you have an OS disk already, you can go with a retail upgrade of home premium.

Black case and monitor with low response time, good quality fans, cooler and some compound. Monitor has DVI to, not all have DVI, it can (not always) make a difference, and its 22 inch.

Stuck to Retail products where possible.... and choose a Samsung drive over a NEC, as i find NEC cheap when compared to the likes of Samsung or Liteon. I actually brought a NEC based on recommends here, i just wasnt impressed.

Was a fun spec to make... ;) ..... feel free to buy it and send to me if you don't like it... ;) .... lol j/k mate
