Been researching components for a long time, any thoughts?

Well I am building my first every computer, and have been researching parts for a very long time; checking reviews, benchmarks etc.
I know we have a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum, so I wanted to know your opinion on my "final" build:

BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Windowed Case
OCZ 750W Fatal1ty Series Semi-Modular PSU
MSI Z77A-GD80 Motherboard (With Thunderbolt)
Intel Core i7 3770K
Sapphire HD 7870 GHz Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCIE GCard
2 x Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB (2x4GB) (16 GB)
WD 500GB Caviar Black Internal Hard Drive
OCZ Vertex 4 256MB SSD
Samsung SH-S222AB DVD-RW
Microsoft SideWinder X4 Keyboard
TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium w/SP1 64bit
Total is roughly £1300 including VAT. (Which is also my budget)

Just wanted to know if anyone could notice any incompatibilities between components,
or had any advice/pointers regarding building my first computer / specific to the components above.

Just a few notes:
> Power supply I already have, so wouldn't want to change that.
> I went with the I7 as I do not want to change my motherboard for a long time, and so I went for the best possible CPU.
(Aside from my supreme commander, sins of a solar empire etc, I also use a lot of strange CPU intensive programs for work –
so I guess 16gb ram and a good CPU would definitely help there)
> My current display runs at 1366x768 and I don't really want to change it for the time being, but will get a new display that runs at 1920x1080 etc some time in the future.

These parts are not set in stone, so I am still open to suggestions!
(A better choice of motherboard, case, gcard etc?)

Thanks for your time =)

What cooler are you going to use on CPU or just planning to buy Retail and using the stock Heatsink/Fan?

Fine if you do not plan to overclock at all but for the cost of some decent air cooling you could get a nice overclock out of it with decent temps.

@stulid: I have seen that board, but I really like MSI's products, and the benchmarks on the motherboard I chose were excellent.

@sin: Hm, well I am not planning to overclock until later on in the build's life. So I am going with the retail CPU + Stock cooler and heatsink.

Well computer is going to be used for work (databases, spectral analysis) and games like supreme commander/sins of a solar empire/ X3 Terran Conflict.

7870 is a mid range card? It seems to be able to max anything out at even 1920x1080. What would you suggest instead?

think of it more like futureproofing ;p

7870vs670

This^ the 670 windforce is one hell of a card. I'm not too clued up on the games that you will be playing but a lot of the GPU intensive games out these days are optimised by nvidea cards. Obviously your monitor also has a big impact too but the 670 makes the 7870 look like a school boy

On those RTS games CPU is the most important figure so I would go with the 7870 and get one hell of a good overclocking cooler like the Noctua DH 14

Woah, that is one beast of a cooler! :D
You reckon the stock cooler will not be enough, even if I am not overclocking for the time being? I did read some stuff about Ivybridge running a lot hotter than sandybridge...
