The system is not for me it is for a friend, and should be arriving Tuesday and Wednesday.

If it is quiet enough it may be on 24/7. One of the main requirements was for it to be quiet, therefore I will see what effect overclocking it has on the retail cooler and then on a better cooler when money permits. If the noise remains low then all is good. It is being put in an old case for now and will later be moved into a nice case.

On a side note. If anyone has any recommendations for a quiet case and heatsink and fan then please say.

Oh and Freefaller this should be folding in 5 days time ;)
This could get interesting :p

Nice little borging potential you have there, although it should have been an ATI 1900 GPU :p

As for a simple quiet case, I've just put an E6600 with X1950XT-X into an Akasa Zen case. Nice and straightforward with 2 120cm fans. Add an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Cooler and I it's quite quiet, much more than my last system. Yep I know it's on, but it's certainly not intrusive. The noisiest thing is the Raptor HD whcih definitely rattles away.

I have a 36gb Raptor I know what you mean about the rattling but mines silent most of the time as it's not being used. If you use the disk a lot suspend it with some thick elastic, it stops the noise being transferred to the case.

I was thinking about getting a Freezer 7 :) I know theres quite a few that are better but there exspensive.

Cheapest X1900 is £135 so add £100 to the cost and it just starts getting to much. A better Graphics card may well be added at somepoint when required. It's primarily a music composing machine.

Nice

I have my E6300 in an Akasa Eclipse 62 (two 120mm Akasa Ambers) with an Arctic Pro 7 HSF and I can hardly hear it next to me. If I get about 10 feet away from it, I wouldn't know if it was on (bloody good cooler too).

Stan :)

My conroe upgrade is in the pipeline... just need to decide on the best RAM and Mobo to go with an E6600 :D Also need a good cooler.. not sure whether or not to Ninja it or not...

Budget around 500 quid so if anyone has any ideas, although I'd rather not have to spend that much if I can help it :D

You shan't keep me at bay dammit :p

I should have a lovely visit from Initial City Link tomorrow :D

Can't wait to see what this rig is like.

It's annoying that I had to spend dosh on everything like HD, Monitor, Keyboard & Mouse, DVD RW, but it's not my computer. I much prefer just having to get the bare essentials - PSU, MB, CPU, RAM and Case until I get round to rackmounting the lot of em in MDF :p
