My parents have tasked me with converted a 4gb wedding DVD from a terminally ill friend so it can be backed up easily and sent around their family. I've done this sort of thing on a mac via handbrake, converting to MKV files but never done anything like it on windows so I need some help.

The wedding DVD was encoded using adobe premiere elements for reference. Any ideas on the best program to use? Converting to AVI, MOV or MPEG preferred.

If you were familiar with Handbrake on your Mac, it should work nicely for you in Windows also. Use the High Profile default setting for the conversion. That will give you an H.264 video (.mp4 format) which streams really nicely also.

Using that setting + some deinterlacing the end result is a lot better than the DVD original so I'm happy with that and I'm sure the family will be also.

Thanks for the recommendation.
