So I fitted my newly acquired G0 chip in to my P5Q Pro yesterday.

After applying new TIM etc. it was idling at less than 20c. This wasn't on so I decided to get it a bit hot under the collar! ;)

At stock clocks and auto vcore it was running at around the 1.24v mark. So I decided to up it to 1.28v and 3.0GHz. 10 runs of IBT came back a pass.

Here's where my predicament lies...

I'm currently on 3.4GHz and 1.31v. I've had no crashes or instability in general use, but the first run of IBT came back a fail after the third pass. I restarted the computer and tried it again. After the fourth pass, a file that was part of the test stopped responding with windows. This meant it failed.

Being quite new to OCing (and today being the first time I've used IBT), I'm not to informed about this, so should I bump up the vcore a bit more?

I've always thought the CPU would conk-out and blue screen on me if it lacked volts.

Any help on this matter would be great. :)

My old B3 revision, needed 1.44v to get to 3.4GHz.

just bump the vcore a couple of levels.
and dont let it go higher than 80.C when running IBT.

also you should be seeing around 38-44 gflops in IBT if you are running it right.

Thanks for the above advice. All it needed was a ~.02v increase to get it IBT stable! :D

I've got the bug now. 3.6GHz would be the wall due to memory limitations. But I do have a 2GB set of PC8500 laying around somewhere... :o

you can always unlink the ram, so its not at 1:1

with those temps, and vcore you should get to 3.6 easily enough, but its not going to make that much difference (except bragging rights :D)

well done :)

I had to have my 1066Mhz RAM running at 998 or something similiar in order to get my Q6600 at 3.6ghz.

Then it does have that option. It's the DRAM Frequency option :) I know because I had the same board when I overclocked my old Q6600 to 3.6ghz.

Sorry OP, i didn't explain it properly, but Deception has.

Basically you manually set the ram speed your self,

Ah but you see, when the FSB gets to 400MHz, the lowest RAM frequency I can select is 800MHz which is what my 4GB kit is rated at. I could faff about with voltage and timings to get it stable at higher frequencies I suppose.

i am not that familiar with that mobo,
but on my DFI DK P45 mobo, i can also change the memory ratio manually as well.
i have actually gone the opposite way.
i have my Q6600 at 3.4ghz, 425 x 8, then i set my ram to a 5:6 ratio, so my ram runs at 1020mhz (stock is 800mhz), it just needed + 0.2v to get that speed. :D

iirc if i set it to 6:5 then it would be at 780mhz ish (cant remember)

This is exactly the same problem as my friend is having. He has got the Geil 800Mhz RAM kit and once he gets to 400fsb the lowest DRAM freq he can choose is 800Mhz.

I'm guessing that if he got rid of the 800Mhz RAM and replaced with 1066Mhz RAM he can then downclock his RAM or simply run it 1:1 and try increase FSB over 400?

Sometimes on the P5Q Pro, its better to put the FSB Strap on 333 (seems to like it more for OC'n). Although might not be worth it as you're stable anyway at 3.4ghz.

Is this the Black Dragon ram? if so thats what i have and it overclocks like a beast.
As i said above i got mine from 800 to 1020
