Beer box subscriptions - anyone?

So I've been checking out a few subscriptions to beer boxes these past few days. I drink a lot of 'craft' ale on the weekends, but there's very few specialist booze shops near me and there's only so much mileage I've been able to get out of my local Tesco's and pubs.

Any of you lovely people taken out a subscription to the numerous services available? I think I'm going to go for 'Flavourly'. They seem to be well reviewed and offer a decent range of products each month.

I trialled Beer52 and have stuck with it but only on a quarterly delivery as an unexpected treat to arrive on my doorstep as it is fairly expensive.

If you fancy giving it a go drop me a trust and I'll refer you so you can get £12 off a case and I get a free one if you keep a subscription :p

I also use Beer52. I've had very few ropey beers from them, and although they are expensive, I think that the quality is generally pretty good. I can give you an entirely free first case if you want to try them, trumping Skillmister :p

The magazine is nicely-produced but a bit pretentious. The snacks are nothing to write home about. I don't think I've had any duplicate beers at all in the 14 months or so I've had it.

I had beer 52 but found the beers to be lacking, they now have there own bottled beers? or at least labels with beer52 on them so have canceled as i was hoping for something different. I found they sent very similar beers out in the boxes. £29 a month.

They're doing some partnerships with breweries. I haven't found the boxes to be *that* similar to one another, in that the strengths and styles tend to vary quite a lot, but you do usually find 1-2 dark beers (stouts / porters), 1-2 strong beers, then a range of IPAs and hoppier ones, with the occasional sour thrown in. I'm pretty sure someone there likes Belgian beers as those seem to be the most common style I can think of :p

I also have a Beer 52 subscription. I signed up as they had an offer of 8 beers for £6 delivered just before Christmas. I've now had 2 boxes. The second one was Belgian beers and had a lot from the Partizan brewery which i'm a big fan of.

I don't think the price is too bad, i get the 8 beer one and at £24 it's only £3 per bottle. Some of the beers i've had would probably cost more than that in specialist stores.

I previously had the Flavourly one, but i'd say the Beer 52 one edges it.

One thing i've thought though is whilst i get different beers to what i'd normally buy i'm not always a fan. As such i sometimes think i'd be better using that £24 to order my own choices from somewhere like Beerhawk! Am going to give it 1 more month i think and see what this next box is like.

I'm not a fan of these regular random content delivery services. If you're not fussy about what beer you like, they're probably a good deal, but ultimately they are a way for the vendor to offload excess or unpopular stock. I just order a mixed case of beer of my choice instead.

Think I'll take you up on that one Arty, sorry Skillmister :p

Is it a tied to subscription service? I know the Flavourly one is cancel at any time so that might swing it for me...

I've used flavourly for about a year i think. Used to be a very good deal at £20 for a box of 10. Although it has gone up to £25, i think i can still justify the £2.50 a beer.

Haven't had many bad ones at all. Have even bought additional left over stock of the ones i liked.

You can also specify what type you want, they offer a light, dark or mixed box.

I may have some introductory offer stuff i can offer but no idea what it would be. If you fancy giving that a try.

Honest Brew for me. Either just picking what I want on a monthly base, or set up an 'honesty box' subscription.

Best selection of craft beers by a mile (in my opinion).

I've already got a case of theirs on the way. Mixture of pales/IPAs from MOOR, Pressure drop, and magic rock.

Just sent you a message through Trust. You can take out a monthly subscription and then cancel at any time, I believe.

Beerhawk is good. I’ve got a £10 voucher if you want it?

I personally wouldn't buy anything from Beerhawk as they're owned by inbev. I've got a beer52 sub and it's a decent way to keep some random beers in the fridge that are generally not just supermarket stock, but I supplement it with better stuff either direct from breweries or from my local beer shops.

Just cancelled my Beer52 subscription. Didn't find the beers that great to be honest, would rather just buy my own in the supermarket!
