Beer / pint glasses

I have had quite a few loaner glasses over the years but I think a stolen pint glass in this case might eat into the razor thin margins just enough to force the pub into closure, and I can’t be a part of that. I thought I did the decent thing by buying them, but so far it has been a waste of money.
Ask if you can buy one.

I found this. If you put a dollop of washing up liquid in the glass, stick some boiling water in it with the rest warm/lukewarm water and rinse thoroughly with cold water it will clean it all and keep the head on the beer properly.

No they are probably clean just not renovated.
The main secret to a decent head on a pint is how its poured. But even a decent pour can't get around a glass that needs to be renovated.
OP, google glass water break test to check your glasses to see if they are clean or need renovating

I renovated my glass. I tried the boiling water and soap then dried it off. It’s tall and narrow so I couldn’t get two fingers to the far end, but I rubbed what I could reach and it did the job nicely. My pint is fizzing and frothing like a fitting sherbert addict.

You're welcome ;) Certain glasses I find are harder to sort out than others. The stella chalice is the best I find, always keeps a great head whereas the Asahi ones are terrible as are Amstel glasses for whatever reason.

Get some glass renovator and avoid washing up liquid if possible, leaves a film on the glasses (eco ver is prob best one if you have to)

Google pint glass salt test and this will show you if the issue is contamination

Also don't forget that the rate of carbon dioxide that comes out of solution is inverse to temperature. ie the colder your beer is, the more carbon dioxide will stay in it. That's why warm beer goes flat quicker.

This possibility has never crossed my mind. Is this a thing?
If I want a glass from a pub, I always ask rather than pocket it.

And not once have they charged me. They’ve always told me just to take one, and often they give me a new one, rather than take the one that I’ve been drinking from.

I see you ended up getting a satisfying head so this advice might come a bit late but...

I have the same problem too but I've found that there are extra long implements available online, that will go all the way in the bottom. There are manually operated ones and battery powered ones. Whichever floats your boat really. The important thing is to clean them once you've used them though. Otherwise the next time you insert it into your glass, you could be contaminating your glass without whatever was in the last glass it was used in.

I improvised with a wooden spoon inside a tea towel and it did the job well.
