Before I buy a GTX 580

What do you mean does it cost more?

More than what?

It's the cheapest GTX 580 at OcUK.

All GTX 580's are 3D ready in the sense that with the appropriate monitor, 3D kit, glasses etc. they will produce a 3D image.

Don't take this the wrong way but do you know what you're doing?

Do you need some basic advice on what to get?

I wasn't denying it was not 3D ready, what I meant was does it cost more than a comparable card which is 2D? I understand 3D cards are going to be a bit more, but would this card be as good as a roughly equivalent 2D GPU?

Or basically I could use help picking one on a £370 budget

Do you actually want 3D, as in a 3 dimensional image?

For that you need a 120Hz monitor and all the necessary kit.

It would be much easier if you set out what you're trying to achieve and what the specs. of your system are including processor, RAM, motherboard, power supply and monitor (full makes and models).

I think you have got a little confused over the whole 3D thing.
All nVidia cards from their 8000 series up support nVidia 3D gaming.
which means:
that with the appropriate monitor, 3D kit, glasses etc. they will produce a 3D image.

AMD also support 3D tech now through their 6000 series cards & ATI HD3D Technology. But theirs work the same as 3D TV, the screen does most of the work.

In essence there is no such thing as a modern 2D card. so you can't buy a 580 which doesn't support 3D, for less.

Specs

Processor: Pentium Pro 150mhz @ 166
Card: Ati Radeon Plug and Play series 200 Mhz
512MB DDR2 Ram
800x500 Resolution CRT Montior (Are they capable of 3D like the monitors you mentioned?)
100 watt PSU
A grey mouse with a ball in it

If that's a serious list then forget putting any modern graphics card in it.

If you're just taking the mickey then good luck sorting it out yourself.

That system will not take the card.

I think it would be PCI only, invest in a complete new system.
