As a last resort I'm going to have to reinstall Win10, possibly backing up first as I doubt I'll be able to overwrite install. But before that I just wondered if anyone had seen this before - a customer's computer's USB ports are completely not working apart from in the BIOS.

So basically after the computer posts they do not work. Mouse and keyboard, different makes, there are as you'd expect no PS2 ports.

Even if I get into the preparing automatic repair screens the usb ports don't work.

Any ideas before I format / install win10 again ?

I've seen the same before, but as mentioned already it was when the USB device drivers had gone awry.
Are you able to get into Safe Mode? Does the error repeat?
Also, potential daft question, you've tried all the USB ports on both the case and IO on the motherboard?

This suggestion maybe a bit long winded, but if you're going to wipe anyways... Can you plug it into a networked environment and attempt to RDP onto the box to check the USB device drivers? Maybe even remove them from device manager and re-install a fresh set from the manufacturer?
