Just wanted to ask any of you bright fellas if my computer is crashing in this certain way is it the video card?

The screen freezes with little distortions on it (such as green pixels, tears in the images etc...)

The rest of the computer seems to be running fine, for example the radio i was listening to online continues to play for about 5 minutes b4 it all packed in.

I wanted to be sure this was the video card or the video cards memories fault b4 trying a mates out or if recommended going straight to XFX and asking them.

Its an XFX Geforce 8800GT Alpha dog for anyone interested.

If you think it may be another component at fault please tell me :) im still quite new to all this and the computer runs fine for the m ost part, just crashing about once a day, not neccessarily when under high load.

Sounds as if the memory is buggered. Check your temperatures it could be your card just needs a good clean, oh and good luck with XFX :p

Hope it doesnt need a clean, assembled it only a couple of weeks ago :P and by memory you mean the Card's itself? or the RAM?

It'll be the cards, PC RAM corruption wouldn't display visually your PC would just die randomly or not start at all. As you said try a spare card, rule it 100% then good luck with your RMA, you'll need it. :)

download ATi tools (its not made by ATi) and run an artifact scan on your graphics card, leave it running for at least 30 mins and see if there are any errors
