....is it really as bad as everyone says? Everyone says it is bloatware, and regarding optimising my games and downloading the latest drivers, I can do that myself thank you very much.
I have purchased a 1080ti and I have a redeem code for Wildlands but I have to install GE to receive the code. Is it really worth the hassle of GE just to have this free game? I don't want GE to cripple my PC just for one game.
Basically, I don't require any hand holding features of GE and I definitely don't want any kind of software slowing down my PC. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Shadowplay is excellent if you ever want to record footage. Don't think I have ever seen any benefit of the game optimisation section though and I did remove "experience" after it updating and not playing well with the rest of my audio/video setup. Wouldnt say it was bloatware though.. better than most manufacturer software

I've not bothered with it since 3.0 - the interface went from something relatively well designed (ish) to something that looked like it was out of the 80s and I started getting issues with the overlay stuff causing random input latency, etc. in games - not tried more recent versions to see if they fixed that.

Damn, not good. Can I just install, redeem my game and then disable overlay and all game optimisation stuff?

Do the games need it to run once you've redeemed them? I've not kept upto date on that aspect.

You don't need to use the game profiles/optimisation stuff at all and I think the rest can be disabled.

I use it purely for Shadow play. It is great for that. I have never used game optimisation. Also just to add, You can record fesktop with shadow play which has come in very handy.

its pretty much this. install it just to use shadow play everything else is pointless.or you get slightly worse performance with it installed.just launch games normally not through experience.

It really isn't bad. I mean for sure install it, redeem your game but why don't you give it a chance? if you find issues/dislike it you can always uninstall it.

I had consistent game crashes until I uninstalled GFE and I haven't installed it again since - this was probably about a year ago. I don't miss it and based on past history I don't want it.

The optimisation is a complete pile of garbage since it sets things several steps lower then what the system can actually handle as it stated that low was the optimal setting for world of tanks where the in game recommendation was for high settings, and it stated that total war: warhammer wouldn't run at the optimised settings (which were the low settings) while in the benchmark test I can get an average of 47fps at 1080p ultra settings which was what was recommended by the game (and I'm only scratching the surface).

its changed since

you set performance or Image qaulity it tells you settiongs based on that... but only installed it to try out ansel tbh

I keep it up to date for shadowplay and turn everything else off. Shadowplay is completely untouchable in terms of performance hit when recording cause of NVFBC which sucks as I would prefer to just use OBS but that aint happening any time soon.

I have it installed with no ill effects, if it slows things down I doubt I could tell without specifically testing for it and i'd rather just on and play the games than worry about endlessly ensuring I get those last few frames per second that I didn't know I was missing :p

I only have this installed as I assumed it was needed to download any new GPU updates? If this is removed, do you have to download them manually from the website? I never actually use it for anything and could live without the optimisation.

Without Geforce Experience you need to manually download and install drivers. Personally i prefer dojng it that way as otherwise I tend to get all the 3D vision crap installed alongside the useful bits.
