Just a few questions. I am thinking of overclocking as soon as my new heatsink gets here. But I want to make sure I am prepared. Do I need to remove the catch/gate lock thingy that holds my i5 CPU in place or do I mount the heatsink ontop of that just like the stock intel cooler? Also is just applying a small rice size blob of paste enough lol? And is there anyway of me checking if I have out enough on without checking temps? Like can i just look at the side of CPU and see if I see any paste coming out between the join?
Thanks.

Yes fit it just like the standard heatsink so over the catch, and if you look on youtube it will show you an example of what amount of tim to use (a grain of rice is fine), and I don't think there is a away of checking other then checking temps. Just make sure you clean the old thermal paste off properly using something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=TH-000-AC&groupid=701&catid=27

yeah clean of the paste before applying new paste otherwise the heat will be insulated.

There is no way of checking temps without powering the system on, go straight into the BIOS after powering up and straight to the section that shows the cpu temps. If it starts rising very fast and gets above 70 degrees power down and reply the paste again.

Run core temp, and then run prime 95 to push the cpu to 100% load, core temp will tell you the highest temp your CPU hit and yes will help FPS but by how much depends on the game.
