I think this is pretty good, but im always unsure on the mobo and ram.
Would be good to get it under £2k. Would all that fit in the 900 case? that would save a bit. I guess *** ram could be different, like I said, im not that good with ram. And yes its going to be DDR3 and dual core only :D

For gaming, and if he lets me I could overclock it :p

Cheers all, hes looking to come over this week and splash the cash!!

Thats pretty similar to the system Im ordering this week.

Just wondering about those OCZ SSD's. I was going to get one for my O/S. I know they are lightning fast with read speeds but, are they still having issues with hanging/locking up and write speeds too?

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Velociraptor drives, mainly because of the price of the SSD's and the problems that I read people were having with them.

My mate only wants a 22inch.

Hes played on my pc and he really likes it and doesnt want bigger.

Hmmm, thats a bit worrying about the SSD's, especially when they cost that much. I dont want to recommend him bits and then it doesnt work, lol.
Are those issues not fixed in the V2's?

I don't know mate. I'd definitely look into them first though.

i would change the monitor to an LG W2252TQ
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...LG W2252TQ 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black

its what i use and to me its superior to the samsung. plus its a little cheaper.
from my understanding that samsung model used to have sub-standard parts which used to fail. i am not sure if that is still the case though. im sure someone will confirm or deny this rumour.

SSD... to me they are a waste of money atm. wait until they become cheaper and compete on the same level as current HDD's. yes SSD's have many advantages over HDD's but to me the price/storage gap outweighs the benefits.

for HDD's get samsung F1's dont bother with raptors/ssd's

and as for the 24inch, without it the GPU is a bad choice, and the 1920*1200 resolution is nice..

resolution is more important than screen size.. thats why i wouldnt get a 22inch, id get a 20inch because they both are on 1680*1050.

Platumin, im confused by what you are saying?

my 22" is 1680x1050, but your saying that a 20" in 1680x1050???

What monitor do you recommend?

SSD = in the bin for sure!!!!!!!!

This is what I would be buying with that kind of money:

You're mate says he wants DDR3 and Dual Core. Well, in fairness, that is the most wasteful combination you can buy. No Dual Core needs to be paired with DDR3. Plus, spending that kind of money on an LGA775 motherboard so soon before 1366 is shotgun suicide. Thirdly, a 22" screen and a 4870X2 do not mix. That kind of (expensive) GPU demands a 24"+ screen.

I realise your mate wants certain things, but honestly, it'll be regrettable if he spends £2K on the spec listed in the OP.

Cause its only for gaming, nothing else.

kk, I understand that. But then you don't need to spend £2K on a gaming machine ;)

All I'm saying is, you might aswell get you're money's worth. Plus, games like Far Cry 2 are alledged to benefit from more cores.

EDIT: Plus, DDR3 won't make the damnedest bit of difference to games, so that should be gone.

lol, he is peed off and has £2k to spend to make him feel better!!!

I see your point though on DDR3. Ill say to him about the 24inch.

Whats so good about sound cards? onboard sound is good these days?

How good will that CPU clock on air?

The Q9550 can at least go up to 3.4GHz

Yeah, scrap the DDR3 and 22". If he still really wants a 22", then do not buy the 4807X2; a single 4870 is enough.

Sound cards aren't needed, but paired with decent speakers i.e. the Aego's, it will make a discernable difference to games. Just a nice luxury really.

I spoke to him and hes really not wanting to clock.

So I will probably go dual core for the higher clock speed as standard.

Hes interested in the 24 inch monitor.

Thanks again for the info.

How about this one then, adjustments made. He wants to come round tomorrow to buy it all!!!

That's all great (provided you're sure about the Raptors).

But whatever you do, do not buy that 900. I used to have one and you do not want to be putting a £1.5K PC inside it. Even if you install front dust filters, it clogs up, dust will literally 'fall' into the PSU 24/7 & its cheaply made too, plastic parts and all.

Go for either;

Hiper Osiris
Lian Li A17 (which I listed previously)

or

Antec 1200 (it is generally better).

The Hiper and the Lian Li rule.
