Hey there, need some help from you guys,

my gf is extremely interested in photography and she wants to get started with a new camera, what would be the best kind of one for her to start off with?

she loves random things, and espeically brightly coloured flowers etc, she also has a blog she updates with photos of the ocean, rivers, dresses, shoes and all sorts of other stuff ^.^

she likes the effect of the focus item being clear and the background being blurry too if that helps.

thanks in advance for any suggestions :) :D

+1 for the D3100. Also look at getting a AF-S 35mm F1.8G lens for her also as it'll give her the effect she wants with a nice sharp focal point and a very blurred and attractive bokeh background.

What is her likely budget?

Also is this a long term interest? if so she is probably better off buying the best she can afford, rather than keep upgrading as in the long run it cost's allot more.

What about a m43 camera like the Lumix g series there smaller than dslr's and just as good IMHO.
Heres a pic with my lumix g2 with 50mm 1.8 lens.

sorry for the lengthy time in replying, she said she'd prefer her budget to be £300 or cheaper if possible, so that might rule the 3100 out, altho I've seen it about 369 in places, thats a really nice photo with the lumix g2 there, might have a look out for that.

how about the 2nd hand market ?

i got a 2nd hand sony a100 to start with and it only had 1600 clicks so was as new and got it for £140,the rest of the money could get a bag or lens and a tripod or everything if 2nd hand.
