beginner needing 5770 help

Just bought and built my first computer in over 5 years this week. I have installed windows 7 and updated the motherboard drivers, and 5770 drivers. I haven't touched anything in the bios. Because to be honest i don't really know a lot about bios settings.

Problem is my 5770 sits around 47degrees idle which i think is normal isn't it? Within minutes of running Napoleon total war the temp of the card goes right into the 90's with the fan at almost full speed. Surely this isn't right is it??

after opening the case again and looking at it. The very front end of the card isn't pushed in all the way due to the metal on the case preventing it. Its a coolermaster 335. Don't know if anyone has had this problem? Might have to do a spot on DIY to get it pushed in properly and then try it again.
 
well its pushed all the way in now. Tried it again and the temp is doing exactly the same thing. Just gets loud, and hot very quickly. Faulty card?
 
ok so this morning i changed the connection of the card to the psu. Also had a look at it with the case open and everything seemed to be functioning fine.

When i turn my pc on it starts at around 40-45c fan speed 35%, doesnt move from this until i either put a game on, which within a minute it increases to 80-90c with a very high fan speed, or even when i go into 3d section in ccc, it increases by at least 10c within 30secs.

Whats going on?
 
I have no problem buying an extra fan, especially if its only an extra tenner. I did try it with a game with the side panel off though so any built up heat would immediately be expelled. Just worried at the speed at which the temps increase, it really is 40c-90c in under a minute. And thats only the opening credits of the game.

My cpu is running at very low temperature in the case. I'll try the gpu-z idea.
 
These are the stats after less than 1 minute of me starting up Napoleon Total War. By this time, the opening video was still playing and the start menu hadnt even appeared.

thanks for the help guys, did find it quite scary the first time i started the game up. Just got louder and louder then eventually crashed. Can't wait to get it sorted out, been trying to play this game since it arrived on its release day.
 
Ok, so i RMA'd the card. They tested it and admitted it was faulty, so they sent a new one through. Installed the hardware, the first thing that happened when i started up windows was the blue screen of death with a memory management note. So i restarted and it worked out fine until i tried the game again and exactly the same thing happened with the instant hot temps appearing in the card. So i reinstalled windows and the updated drivers for the card and nothing. Card hits 90degrees within 30secs even quicker than the last one. Is this another faulty card or is something strange going on?

Hard drive - spinpoint f3 500gb
psu - 500w modxstream
windows 7
4gb geil value ddr3 10666 1333mhz

will try a 3d mark. This one idles at 40c
 
well the catalyst control crashed itself so i couldnt see the temps just after the test but i could definately hear the fan going from the start of the start
 
10.3 is already installed, first thing i did with my new windows reintstall.

Brand is HIS - bought from another site. Looks a new card, the box is new and the wrapping hadnt been touched

Desktop just crashed there with another blue screen with the memory_management note. Can this be related?

so i maybe best just rma'ing it and asking for a refund and getting maybe the sapphire one on here? it does look like a heatsink problem and i dont want to touch it and nullify my warranty if i mess it up
 
Well just bought another, this time the sapphire 5770, redone benchmark and never hit above 64degress with fan at 47%. So all is looking well. Conclusion is HIS cards appear to not have been built well.
