Beginner question about SLI/CrossFireX

Does having SLI/Crossfire double the amount of wattage you need compared to one graphics card, or do the two graphic cards share the processing load and therefore just increase your fps? I'm still very new to all of this, so please forgive me if that was an ignorant comment. :)
 
yes double wattage.
you need a good quality PSU with plenty of juice on the 12v rails.
so 2 cards = double the power, you may not think so since sli/xfire usually give more like 60% performance increase but thats how it works.
