Beginner wanting to overclock Core i5-750

I'm not even sure my Asus P7H55-M SI motherboard supports overclocking (due to the "SI" part).

A standard Core i5-750 runs at 2.66 GHz. CPU-Z is telling me the core voltage is 1.152V.

Prime95 said it was running at 2.8 GHz during the stress testing. I presume this is Turbo Boost at work.

I ran Prime95 for 10 minutes, max core temps: 75C, 73C, 73C, 75C.

Can I overclock without buying a new fan/heatsink considering the temperatures above?
 
Going by what you said seems like you've a stock cooler.

I'd wait until getting an aftermarket cooler then start overclocking.

70's are quite high for stock and think of how much that will increase when OC'd, it will mean your chip will wear out fast.

Decent cooler's aren't too expensive either.
 
Can anyone think of an online store (apart from Play.com and Amazon) that sells coolers that don't charge £5+ for P&P?

I hate having an upper £15 budget for something, finding a product for £15 but having to pay £20+ due to the P&P.

OP, keep checking the bay. You can pick up some real bargains on there. I got a Scythe Ninja on there for £5 delevered and that was a awesome cooler.

As an i5-750 owner myself, I'd agree with the majority of posts here and say get yourself at least a basic aftermarket cooler if you plan to OC. I am currently running my chip at 3.8GHz/1.268v and temps never exceed 60°C in Prime95 - this is with an Antec H2O 620.

That said, it also depends on what case/fans/cable management/airflow is like in your rig.

One thing i have personally learnt overclocking these is that VTT PLL makes no difference at all and all that matters seems to be core voltage I need 1.36 4ghz 200x20 raising vtt and PLL doesn't allow me to lower that 1.36 core volts not even If I use 1.4 volts vtt which is the recommended max btw 1.4 volts is now the recommended max for core voltage also.

Of course he can OC on stock volts. His max temps are 75c. He has atleast 10c headroom considering the chips are far more tolerant to heat at stock volts.
