As I'm planning a bit of a long holiday soon, I had an idea about taking both a small point and click camera for quick shots but also taking a DSLR camera along to take a few more quality shots to help me remember places.
I'm OK picking the the point-and-click camera but as I'm a complete photo novice I'm not sure what would be good in the world of DSLR. I've heard that the Nikon D40x is meant to be a good camera but I don't know if that would be too much for me to use.
I'm ideally looking for something that will be easy to use to start with but as I get better, will let me have greater control over it. So is the D40x a good bet ? And what lense should I look at getting for starting off with ?
