I got a text from a mate this morning:

As of 1600 hrs today I am formally discharged from the British army. Thank you all for all your support.

Now the mate in question, I haven't even seen for over a year. I used to work with him in the local pub and he was always a bit odd. A ferocious womaniser, completely lacking in self-control, and about 6'4 with huge arms. Bit of a brute, but a pretty nice guy once you got to know him. I lost contact and was quite happy to never have to speak to him again: he wasn't the easiest guy to get on with.

But what I'd like to know is how the hell he managed to get himself kicked out of the army? Does anyone know what sort of crime he must have committed to be discharged?

Bit of a random text to send someone you have not spoken for ages?

discharged = left the army

It doesn't necessarily imply he did anything bad.

i.e. If you leave a job it doesn't automatically imply you were sacked.

Discharged from the Army could be anything:

Discharged: Did his minimum time, signed off giving a years notice and then was discharged

Medical Discharge: Discharge from the Army due to medical reasons meaning he is unfit to serve in any role in the Army or continuing to serve would cause more medical problems

Dishonorable discharge: Basically drug taking or some other dodgy thing

I was medically discharged even though I tried to fight it all the way but the medical board and manning in glasgow have the final decision.

if he sent the message to all of his "friends", he looks like he's looking for sympathy.

give him a call if you want to get involved, dont if you dont.

But if you're discharged within the minimum tenure of service, it implies something bad was done, unless its medical.
