Hi,

Hope this is the right place.
My gilrfriends msn and facebook passwords keep changing every 4 to 8 days or so. so she has to keep changing her passwords. she only went on both today signing in ok. then tried again not so long ago, with no luck of signing in.
It all started of with a link coming to her on a friends msn messenger, which the person said they didn't send. so of course my gf clicked on it. i have windows xp on there with windows firewall and avast. never had a problem. we are worried that they might get into are paypal etc now.
so what could it be, and how would i know if someones hacked into the system some how ? and how to stop it ?
Be really greatful if someone could help out.

Thanks a lot.

keylogger? is avast running and updated?

If in doubt, reinstall. Backup data and scan on another machine, if using a USB drive turn off autorun.

malwarebytes is the king of free anti-malware atm, imo. Don't remember the last time I used spybot/adaware/etc.

come to think of it, this seemed to happen when i done a spybot scan, which found stuff and cleaned them, then couldn't log in the msn facebook. not sure if that had something to do with it also ?
So malwarebytes would do what spybot/adaware but in a better way.
Shall i buy this then, does it take much memory. and should i still keep avast.
I just downloaded the free trail, scaned it, but nothing detected.
maybe spypot got rid of it. ?

P.S, thanks for the link, and avast is running and updated.

Cheers :)

There is no point in buying MalwareBytes, especially if the trial showed nothing.

Tell your girlfriend to change her secret password/answer (you know the one that you need to reset your password). Also tell her to change the passwords on her email account. It's possible someone who knows her managed to guess the secret password and is then able to keep changing her passwords. It's also possible someone has access to her email account and is able to view the passwords on there.

You might want to try running SuperAntiSpyware free edition and see if it finds anything.

Done all the scanning, found nothing, and guess what, just tried loging into facebook and msn (even changed the password to a swear word lol) with no joy. has someone got into the system. this is abit freaky now :(

Just tried this, and it found 16 Threats Detected

Echoing the above from GSDog, change the secret password & answer, change your registered email accts password and the msn/facebook password - do all this from a different PC

If in doubt backup/format the PC in question afterwards

Why would you perma block someone due to this? It is not them who send you it, it's the virus....

I've got one atm , no one is blocking me cause of it O_o.

scan using a-squared anti malware. There is a 30 free trial and so far thats the best one I've used. so much so I bought a 2 year licence for it. all I pick up these days are between 1 - 4 tracking cookies each day which get deleted. :D

Because some people click the links, if every one blocked people that were (sorry to say) silly enough to click a link saying
"ha ha this is really funny http://123.123.123.123/reallyfunny.exe"

then they should get blocked, i'm having a go at my woman AGAIN for installing stuipd mouse curors and msn smiles....

I've blocked friends for the same, and only after they have cleaned there machine do i unblock them, but i will only click links from about 2 of my friends (even then only once i have read the link location)
