Being objective when buying a new car - how do you do it?

I've had a couple of threads on here now rambling about changing car.

Is being objective about a car something you struggle to do when you're a petrol head?

For instance, for £12.5k (before part-ex), I could pick up a very tidy 1 year old Octavia Elegence 5dr 2.0 PD140. Climate, cruise etc so a few toys to play with. That should provide reliable, pleasent, netural image motoring for my 25k (ish) miles a year.

However, today I've visited a Saab and BMW dealer. I'm also debating ringing a semi-distant BMW dealer to see if they'll hold a nice looking 53 plate 330d for a week or so until I could get to see it. That's on for £17k. Having done my sums, I can comfortably afford it.

Or I could go newer for something like 55 plate 9-3 Vector Sport TiD at £16.5k ish.

So how would you justify spending the extra cash? Or would you?

Drive all the cars and buy the one which left me itching to own it.

I drove loads of different cars then decided to find a totally mint example of the one I must loved.

I am now very happy :p

So you've got the blurb, but when are you getting the actual car? :p

Anyway, you don't need to justify it. You buy what you want to buy.
