Hey,

I'm slightly confused on the moral of this matter, I had a GTX580 (Under a 5 year extneded warrenty with PNY) Which finally deicded to give up on me a few days ago and PNY has flawlessly stuck to their promise and RMA'd it and i'm currently being sent a replacement card my only concern is the replacement card i'm being sent (Gtx670) is now end of life, I won't be complaining to them in any wayshape and / or form as i'm just happy they're replacing my card which I badly need for university (I'm studying CGI so as you can imagine it's a some what intense course) My question is , do you think that it is right sending out EOL products as replacements?

Warm Regards,
Tom

Ps Please don't flame! It's just a question i'm asking in the most friendly manner possible!

If your part is EOL and they've replaced it with an equivalent or better part (regardless as to whether that too is EOL) then I would be happy / say they have met their obligations.

Personally I would be pleased. Good service from PNY and a free upgrade.

I don't see why the replacement card being EOL is an issue.

Yeah, as I stated i'm very happy with the replacement thank-god I got the extended warranty! Iv'e just cleared it up a bit too, i'm still getting the standard warranty from PNY for the new card and I can still register it to extend it by another 36 months so basically, free upgrade for my card breaking.

If any if you are curious to what was wrong with the card, as i'm sure you all know Nvidia cards underclock themselves when they're not in use In my case it was going from 772 mhz down to a idle clock of about 440. However my card would continuously do this every second or so no matter what the circumstance was, rendering in maya, playing a game or idling just started to happen and I noticed an immediate performance drop, sometimes it would even clock itself down to 50mhz. The bios, drivers, etc were up to date, put it down to something related to how the power is controlled in the card, ie a blown or faulty capacitor. Anyway, they were very helpful and RMA'd my product, tested it and now i'm getting a new card sent out to me, so all is good! I was slightly concerned about the warranty of the new card as it was EOL but it's been cleared up now too! I didn't mean to come over as snobby or anything!

So OP will you be happier if you got sent a non-EOL GTX760, which is essentially same GPU under the hood as a GTX670, but with fewer streaming processors and with a higher stock clock to make up for the weaker spec? :p

Did you have to send the card back to France? Let us know how long in total it has taken for the RMA.

Cheers.

The "new" 700 series is a refresh. Gpu boost 2.0 is bios flashable, and Nvidia didn't put Directx 11.1 or 11.2 hardware on them so your 670 is, both in terms of features and performance, exactly as current-gen as the 700 series. It is, as others have mentioned, an upgraded 760.

Anyway I don't see why morals relate to your situation. The manufacturer should repair or replace, and where matching stock is unavailable, they must offer you an equal or superior alternative. PNY would obviously rather move 670 stock than the current cards. Sure it's less expensive for them but I don't see what that has to do with anything.

To be honest that is what I would have expected back as a replacement. think about it with all these threads lately of 480's being replaced with 570's, that is one bracket down but next generation.
So a 670 would be correct for a 580 replacement, one bracket down and next generation.
