Belfast, what to do?

I'm going to Belfast for a weekend on the 19th of this month.

Just looking for some stuff to do? I'm soloing it all day Friday and Friday night, and love to hear some insider stuff. Maybe some cool galleries, good bars (I'm a big fan of Whites & The Spainard) and some relaxed dining that would be suitable for a solo guy.

I've been twice before, but always for a drink so planning on doing some more touristy stuff. Been to the Causeway before and not really fussed about a distillery tour.

The Crumlin Road Gaol sounds quite interesting, but that's about it.

Obviously, lots of Guinness and Top o' the mornings will be had.

E: it's closed down :(

E2: ^^ probably best to keep the Irish cliché to yourself unless you really know who you're speaking with :p

E3: L'Etoile on the Ormeau Rd is probably the best French restaurant I've eaten in (and eaten in loads all over the world). Looks like a dump from the outside (and inside last time I was there) but very cosy, lone geezer would probably blend in

I currently live in Belfast and can highly recommend the Gaol - very interesting! Even the open top bus is good if you want to see the Falls and Stormont etc etc..

For food, the Cloth Ear which is near the Spaniard is good and then for a few drinks, you can't go wrong with the Harp Bar which has live music until late!

They're all in and around Cathedral Quarter... Which makes it a little bit easier.

I've never been to Belfast but friends who have always recommend the black cab tours.

I believe it takes you around the key areas of the troubles and other historical sights, if that is your thing anyway.

If you have time get out to the Titanic exhibition it's really good. If you are sticking to the city centre/Cathedral Quarter there are loads of good pubs now with great selections of beers. Dirty Onion is a good spot with a big outside space, which is not far from the Spaniard. Carry on down to Duke of York (which now has some really cool murals celebrating local life), Harp Bar, Strip Joint has great food. Further on down that way into St Annes square is my current fave eating spot Coppi (seriously good Italian style food).

If you are into GoT there are loads of things to see including tours to all the filming locations. If you are looking for local history around the troubles there are also numerous tours that will take you around.

It's called Dark Tourism....they take you round the areas where there were bombings, people murdered etc...hence dark aspect.

It's weird I live here but can't see the attraction of anyone wanting to come to visit. If you like BBQ then try Bubbacue to eat, just off the city centre main area. GO early as they open until the food is sold out then they close.

Crumlin Gaol for a tour and eat there too

HMS Caroline as was mentioned

If you've got nippers then W5 is good for them. Huge place of activities...good for adults too :p

lived in Belfast for 7 years - can genuinely say there's nothing remotely touristy to do, unless you think being driven round in a black taxi and shown where people got shot or blown up and look at the murals that commemorate such events floats your boat!

but there are plenty of very good places to eat and drink.

Obviously, lots of Guinness and Top o' the mornings will be had.

you wot now?

say that in the wrong place and your face will be on one of the above mentioned murals! :p
