belkin died, got a netgear but now have problems

my belkin 8631v4uk N1 router died (faulty wireless) and ive chosen a netgear DG834N based on some really good reviews. Problem I have atm is though is that every channel I choose has quite abit of interference on it due to having nearly 15 wireless networks near me. My router only goes from 1-7 and can only do WPA-PSK 1 and 2 combined :S

Had a look for new firmware but its been the same for ages.

Any ideas how to either free up more wireless channels or get it to allow me to use WEP or something else? Connection keeps dropping all the time and im using a macbook with an N card built into it.
 
already done that, returned it and got the netgear in its stead as it has better reviews. Its all up and running now but ive got a few concerns with the netgear itself. Firstly it wont do WEP, theres no option for it. Secondly it forces AES on WPA-PSK which is fine for my mac but garbage for my mums laptop as it means getting a newer card that supports it and thirdly theres only 7 wireless channels! Apart from that it was stupidly easy to set up
 
the dg834n seems to have a few issues.

Like you the lack of channels hinder's me, also the lack of a firmware update since oct 06.

Really annoyed as i want to switch to be pro, and get a 2.26mb upload as well as 18mb download. But the dg834n cannot support more than 1mb up :(

Their supposed to be working on firmware for the router which also includes an update for the draft n, but that was in june/july when i heard that :(

But otherwise its a solid router, not had to re-boot it for any reason since having it. No lock up's nowt.

What you need is a modded firmware as these do support Annex M for the higher upload speed :) The firmware also comes with a lot of changes to help you set your own SNR etc.

You can't set your own SNR. It is something that is inherrent to your phone line. The value in the router is merely a reading.

Not true, the SNR setting can be set by yourself with most ADSL2+ providers. I know for a fact it works as i do it myself for my home and uni address to get an extra couple of Mb out of the line.
