Hi all,

Im trying to set this router up as a bridge from the internet router a Netgear DG834G. So far ive got no where after following various guides on the net. Can anyone help?

The Netgear is working fine, I can connect to it from a laptop and access the internet. I am using the same port on each router and have turned off the DHCP server on the Belkin. Netgear lan ip is 192.168.1.1 Belkin is 192.168.1.2 I have also enabled the bridge from the Belkin menu and select auto, this has brought up the Netgear and I have enabled it. What should I select as the WAN settings?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

update:

If I hardwire the two routers together and connect to the second via wireless then it forwards through to the primary router fine and i can access the internet fine.

What am i doing wrong that they wont connect together wirelessly?

I've tried this before for a client and it cannot be done (had a good look round on google to be sure).

The netgear also doesn't support WDS (wireless distribution system), however you MIGHT get it working with a dedicated wireless repeater. I'd get a homeplug system if its just one machine that is just a little out of range, you can even get homeplugs with a built in wireless access point.

Thanks for the reply Rabtech, but in the netgear settings it does have WDS, poitn to point bridge , point to multi point bridge and repeater.

From what ive read else where, the main internet router(the netgear), is just setup as usual, all the bridge settings have to be done on the secondary(bridged), router, is this right?

Ahh good, Im used to using earlier versions of the 834G where WDS wasn't supported. Just need another router/repeater that supports it now and you should be able to get up and running :)

Settings are needed in both routers too ie mac addresses etc.

Well I have now switched the two routers round so the Belkin is internet facing and the Netgear a separate device. I have entered the Belkins WLAN MAC address into the Netgears WDS - Point-to-point bridge and selected the netgear in the Belkin bridge setup. I have them both in the same subnet and DHCP disabled on the Netgear.

Still nothing!
dont even seem to be trying to connect, Im missing something somewhere. what?!!

Both devices need to be WDS compatible - ditch the Belkin and get a WDS supported router cheap or a proper wireless repeater.
