Hi all,
So I've been given a Belkin N1 USB wireless adapter, which I'm using to connect a couple of laptops (macbook pro and a vista laptop) to my main machine, which is wired and sharing the internet connection absolutely fine (wired router).
I have got the ad hoc network up and running, and can share files okay, except the network speed is absolutely diabolical. I'm currently transferring files from my main machine (win XP 32 bit) with the Belkin N1 (draft n mode enabled) wireless adapter to my work Macbook Pro (Leopard, also draft n adapter), and the transfer speed I'd guestimate at about 30 kilobytes per second. Certainly not the advertised speeds!
This is independent of distance, within the house certainly.
Is this likely to be a driver issue with the USB device?
I don't want to buy a wireless router, and I don't want to buy a PCI wireless adapter, either, given that I've been given 50 quid's worth of gear here and reviews say it works well for people...
Any help to diagnose and fix this sustained transfer speed issue would be greatly received!
Thanks in advance,
Roo
