Hi there, I have a belkin router and its old a WRTR_159G_v01. Basically the issue I'm having is randomly every couple of hours it will cut of my iPhone from Wi-Fi and the only way to fix it is to reset the router. I haven't tested it with any more devices but I plan to. Any ideas what this could be? Or is it time for a new router?

I think it's time for a new router. Belkin and "playing up" kind of are like a happily married couple :p

Belkin are dire. The only thing I would suggest before replacing it, would be to check for updated firmware on the Belkin website.

Hi there. Sadly there is no new firmware available from belkin and that website linked above doesn't support my router. Looks like it is time to try and convince my dad to buy a new router, should be fun as he believes there is no problem:rolleyes:

Easy solution my man, simply limit all your network cards (in device manager) it the lowest speed and then show him it's not giving full speeds = faulty and a new router is in order :D

If you don't need N speeds there are plenty of routers going for peanuts on the bay :)

Hmm, I doubt it would work as sadly he isn't completely stupid, knowing him he would ring up Virgin and get them to send an engineer, I need to do something that makes it very obvious that the router is at fault.

Hmm, my router now is G isn't it, what difference would an N router make?

Would that be suitable?

Pull out 1 RJ45 pin from each socket on the back, instant faulty ports :D

Hmm actually no, he might notice that a pin is cut and slice your face while you sleep.

Plan B, open it up, smash some capastycitors!

I don't have a pic but it's pretty obvious what to cut :p There's going to be a group of pins in the socket, just cut a few with pointed wire clippers at the ends so it's not obvious they're cut. They bend easily as well so I guess you could push them in but if your dad sees that he might slice your face while you sleep (again)!

You ignored my second question :p

Ah, never noticed :p

Never heard of Getnet o.0 what kind of usage do you give your connection/network? if it's moderate to heavy I wouldn't be looking at a £15 router really, about double would be acceptable?

Well I'm on xbox live for hours, constantly browsing with some heavy downloading now and then. Any particular model of router you think would be suitable?
EDIT: just looking on virgin media's site, turns out they provide a free router/modem for new customers. Wonder if I can get one of these off them as I'm sure it would be an improvement.
