Belkin router problem!

Im trying to replace our old antiquated router in our house with a slightly more up to date router that doesnt crash every time you try and play CSS! :mad:

Now the new router is without power adapter but is the same manufacturer so i figured it wouldnt matter if i just used the same adapter.

So i plugged everything in and it wont work, all the lights flash etc but I cannot connect to the internet.
I get that annoying "limited or no connectivity" icon in my task bar and when i try to release/ renew my ip address it tells me that its
"unable to connect to DHCP server".

The only thing I can fathom from examining the routers is that the old router says "2.4 A" above the power socket and the new one says "2.5 A".
Would this stop it from working?

The new router is a:

Belkin 4 - Port Cable/DSL Gateway router. model no # F5D5231 - 4.

I apologise for the ignorance but how do I manually set an IP address?

On the actual Adapter it says nothing. On both routers it says 5V.

I manually set an IP address but it did nothing but remove the limited or no connectivity icon from the task bar. (I didnt enter anything into the boxes for the DNS server??)

I was still not able to connect to the router at all. :confused:

When i set an ip address i tried accessing the router through my web browser and it found nothing so surely pinging it wont work? Ill give it a go though.

Ok tried pinging the router it says it cannot reach it.

Maybe i had better tell you my setup. : cable modem > router > switch.

I tried cutting out the switch but it said my cable was unplugged :confused:

does that mean the router is borked or could it just be down to the incorrect power supply?

This task wouldnt be so hard if i didnt have to go up and down 3 flights of stairs every time i go and change the router round! lol

LOL. I am but an impoverished student and cant be arsed to clean peoples windows!

I am going to buy a gaming router but i want to play CSS NOW!

Doh. oh well no games for me then! At least I got some excercise running up and down the stairs. lol
