so what i thought to be talktal's internet connection slowly going down the drain, actually turned out to be the router.

Seems to sync somewhere in the region of 700-900Kbits down, yet plugging in the generic el cheapo talk talk router, i suddenly get sync speeds of 2436Kbits (speedtest shows 2.08Mbits, which sounds about right).

After an hour on the phone to belkin support and changing just about every option availiable, i managed to claw the speed back up to around 1.5Mbits, but literally seconds after i hung up, it decided to disconnect, then reconnect at 870Kbits once again.

Im completely lost here. All the connection settings (PVC/VPI/VCI etc) are identical on the two routers, so i dont see why the nice shiny expensive belkin router is playing up.

Belkin router is a f5d8635-4v1
Talktalk router is a huawei echolife hg520s

belikn setup page stats (am i right in thinking that the noise margin should not be zero?):

might be worth calling your ISP and getting them to change the profile type on your line we found this we a few routers here and simply was because the router did not support a specific ADSL2 profile.

cheers for that, ive mentioned it in my thread on talktalk members forums (ive found it better than calling them). Ill see what happens :)
