Hey guys,

I was thinking about getting one these Belkin UPS things?

This ones on offer this week :D

I live in the country and we’re prone to power cuts, so I thought it would be a good idea – the software allows for proper shutdown etc.

Thing is, I heard that because it is only rated at 300w (I have a 500w Enermax) it would be a bit useless for my 64-bit gaming rig in the event of a power cut

Can anyone here put the record straight?

Cheers,

SW.

The only way to be sure would be to check how much power your PC is using under normal gaming loads.

Remember the 500watt PSU is there partly to ensure that there is enough juice at the time of maximum power use (normally when booting up, as all the drives etc start up), so it may be drawing less than 300 watts under gaming conditions.

I'm not sure how UPS's deal with loads over their rated maximum, as i've heard various reports.
