As the title states, unable to access some websites and MSN Messenger. Have tried using Open DNS but to no avail.

I'm sure more info is required but some first pointers would be great :)

What happens when you traceroute one of the website you can't gain access to?

e.g.

tracert bbc.co.uk

What message does it return? If you could paste the results into this topic, we can progress from there.

Do a tracert/traceroute to one of the websites you are having problems with (the bbc.co.uk was just an example).

Thanks for your reply.

Here's one for the National Lottery website, one that hasn't worked for the last week -

I can't see a reason as to why you cannot access the national-lottery.co.uk website;

- Your connection is able to resolve the domain
- Your connection is able to reach the end host

What error message do you get in your browser when you go to national-lottery.co.uk?

Although the traceroute does not appear to complete to national-lottery.co.uk, it has reached the end destination. This is due to how national-lottery.co.uk's network is structured, to prevent attacks.

I stopped the Traceroute for the national-lottery.co.uk website, it went up to about 20 and kept going with the 3 *'s.
I don't get an error message it just fails to load. For example, I could enter it now from this page and it would hang on here. Same for if I type it into Google and click on the first result, it would appear to load but just stay on the search results.

I've tried Firefox and Safari. I think this ties in with not being able to access Messenger, having tried both the Microsoft Messenger for Mac and aMSN (again for Mac).
It's notable that these services/websites aren't available on my girlfriends Mac either.

The router is Version 1.0.

You haven't said what the router or adapter is :p E.g Belkin F5D8633UK4A 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+, also a router usually improves with firmware updates, upgrading may solve problems.

Have you checked that you haven't got any sort of proxy settings setup, untick 'Detect automatically' or anything like that?

I've seem similar behaviour with a couple of clients, where their browser had 'Detect proxy settings automatically' ticked/enabled; which meant that they could access a couple of pages, but other pages would simply not load or respond.

The router name is in the thread title, this is the only additional info I can get - F5D9630-4Av1_UK_1.00.04.

Have tried removing any proxy ticks and made sure everything is off but to no avail. I'm fairly sure this is an issue with the router...

Who's the ISP? The sites that don't work wouldn't happen to use HTTPS, would they?

Try setting (in the router) the MTU to 1400.

I believe the ISP is Talk Talk (groan).

Will try your suggestion, cheers.

EDIT - the MTU is already set at 1400.

Update - it appears to be a problem with TalkTalk. A number of companies/users are reporting issues with them!
