any benchmark for CPU thats free? i want to test out my new rig.

It lets you compare the results to various CPUs too

people use superpi as a quick indicator of stability, usually 1 million digits
No crashes, move on to prime95 etc

It tests the CPUs arithmetic abilities

A faster CPU will give a faster Super PI time

.... my 3700+ stock took like 36 secs... every1 else got like under 31.... does this mean my rig sucks?

It means theirs is overclocked

As above - their PCs are overclocked - as an example, my Opteron @ 2.3 (your stock is 2.2) gets 37 seconds, a 2.4Ghz 3000+ (200Mhz faster) gets 36.5s

Any will do, stock is fine most of the time
