Its not a crap port at all best version by far graphics are stunning compared to the console versions as vsync + AA + higher draw distance and higher FPS with minimal loading times as well as extra content the consoles never got. Its not actually a console port at all as Ubisoft decided to spend another 6 months developing the PC version rather than makie it a straight console port.
Look for some recent reviews of 4850/4870 on the web as most use AC as one of the benchmarks. I get 45-60FPS @ 1920x1200 on Vista 32 bit with DX10.1 with x24 AA (edge detect) & max graphic details on a 4850. My old 8800GTX struggled with any AA @ the same res and would drop to low 30s or even 25-20 FPS.
