Benchmarks for Ubuntu and Windows?

Hi all, hope you can help.

Basically, I need to compare the peformance of Vista SP1 and Ubuntu 8.10. To make it a fair test, are there benchmark programs out there that will do graphics performance and other benchmarks and are available for both OSes?

My Googling skills have thus far failed me, so I'm counting on your expert advice

Edit: I could run Windows benchies under Wine in Linux, but how much would that distort the results?

Thanks all!

I have compared time taken to boot, time taken to compress a 1.03GB .rar, Super-Pi peformance and graphics performance. I realise that these aren't going to be a wholly fair comparison due to the different ways of compilation etc. but they should give a decent enough picture.

(Rather unsurprisingly, the only one Vista won in was OpenGL performance - due to driver differences?)

Thanks for the input, but I was looking for something that will run on both platforms to give a 'fair test' (or, at least as fair as possible)
