Behind you... Naked!
Just somethign that I noticed a short while ago, I decided to have another look yesterday showing a mate.

Ok, I started off when I ran 3DMark on my Opteron PC.

The Opteron Specs are :-

Asus A8N-SLI
Opty 175 @ stock
2 x 1GB Crucial DDR400
2 x 7600GT
Audigy 2 Platinum

And on 3DMark I got 20K

Now, I thought about this for a second and I remembered that my main PC also gave 20K too, but that was an 8800GT!

I don tahe the same components in my main PC anymore, but I do have the same spec of that PC on my LAN, and thats :-

Gigabyte DS3
Q6600 @ Stock
4 x 1GB Geil 6400
Zoltac 8800GT
X-FI Gamer

And so I run 3DMark again on that, and sure enough, it gave me 20K again?

Now, when you run games or you watch 3DMark go, you can clearly see that the 8800GT is walking all over the 2x7600GT setup, the FPS for example in parts is hitting over 700FPS with the 8800 and yet the same place you are lucky to get 150 or so.

So, how come they can say that they both have a final score of 20K ?

So, last night, we ran the very same tests and this time, we also included another PC

Abit QuadGT
E6300 @ Stock
4x512MB Geil PC6400
Saphire 1900XT
Audigy 1

And guess what?

Any thoughts?

Im not taking these scores seriously, I stopped taking benchmarks seriously several years ago, and this is exactly why, but it would be fun to know.

Would have been nice to back these results up with a screenshot or two :)

I just ran 3D Mark 06 on my old rig, an AMD 4800 with 2Gb ram and a 512Mb ATI 1900XT
result = 5654. But wow, you managed 20,000 with your PC containing the same card.

GreenLizard:
No, its 3DMark03 I ran
I ran it purely as a bit of fun, considering the 2x7600GT are possibly more suited to that rather than a newer one.

Rancid-A:Screen shot or two?
Why? I could do that but it wont prove a thing.
And also it wasnt 06 that I ran, it was 03... I will however run 06 on it later on for a laugh.

Your huntch is correct.

As I said, its all in fun of course, but for 3 setups to get very close to exactly the same results just made me giggle.

How about you running 03 to see what you get?

Like I said, if I watch the thing going, you can clearly see that the newer / faster cards are giving a much criper display, the FPS is many times more and yet the score stays lower.

Doesn't matter about the screenshots, you're running 3D Mark 03, so your scores don't appear absurd anymore :)

Not sure about your Vista64+3D Mark 06 problem. Mine ran fine without any probs...not that I care, It's something I'll probably never run again until I get a new PC :)

You've got me wondering what 03 would do on my machine now! Would it even work? This is the one with the Max Payne style bullet time scene yes? I might give it a go later this week then I get chance.

OpenAL32.dll I just downloaded a newer one from creative... Run 06 fine.

Its a fairly fresh install and so its clearly not fully up and running for all software... This is one of them.

Ok 03... Max Payne one? - Erm, no I think thats 2001 isnt it?

03 has the Orcs playing a game and the airplanes doesnt it?

Argh, I got my had up me bum right now... I iwll have to look through them to see now myself?

That's the same rig I had 12months ago and the same score, I put an 8800gt in it and get between 8500-8900 with 3DMark06.
I still carn't face replacing it even though it's a bit slow now I've gone to 1900x1200 res.
