From our local rag....

"A MOTHER of five who dishonestly claimed more than £21,000 in benefits has escaped a prison sentence.

Carole Bissington, 48, formerly of Maryland Close, Bemerton Heath, said she was divorced in paperwork she filled out in 2001 to claim income support, council tax benefit and housing benefit.

But a joint investigation by the Department for Work and Pensions and Wiltshire County Council revealed that she had been living with her partner from about 2005, but had not notified either authority of a change in circumstance and between December 2005 and August 2008 she claimed a total of £21,786 that she was not entitled to.

.....

He sentenced her to a six-month sentence suspended for two years and ordered her to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work."

So she's now working at an hourly rate of £217.... What the!!!!!

I would imagine she also has to pay it back.

Welcome to left wing lunacy. All those who voted nu labour, this is YOUR fault.

Have a nice day.

This woman lives on the council estate in the city I live in. I suspect she is the thin edge of the wedge tbh.

I agree, she clearly is.

Yes it is.

I thought you did, but there would be a repayment plan where the amount of cash paid a month was very low.

If so, why isn't it mentioned in the article?

Suspended sentence meets squat provided she does not break the law in 6 months.

So yeah she is getting payed over £200 an hour, where is the punishment in that??

If they mentioned it, they wouldn't be getting the same levels of rage from you!

:D No rage, I'm just surprised at how lenient the sentance is.

Saying that I haven't seen any adverts of late for 'Stamping out Benefit Fraud', possibly they've stopped looking

The community service sentence may be a little light but would you rather she were sent to prison? I don't really understand the point of your outrage/post.

Fraud squad dont care about this type of illegal activity. Tried to let them know about people doing this and the people are still doing it 2 years later.
What makes it even worst is that the man who is apparently not living at her address is still popping out babies when her.

This +1

Actually I think you'll find most will have to pay it back...

and 100 hours unpaid work is a bit lenient considering I know of somebody you claimed £1300 and got 200 hours

I think it's about time judges need to answer for their crap sentencing
