I am new to all of this so trying to learn as much as possible, what benefits do you get by overclocking your memory, thanks

Personally I would not bother overclocking memory.
To get a decent overclock you will need to add extra voltage plus loosen the timings (which reduces performance) and so undoes a lot of the overclock benefit. Just one timing set incorrectly can cause freqeuent bsod.
Memory is currently very cheap. My advice is to buy fast memory in the first place.

Overclocking a cpu and a gpu can yield pretty good results though!

A tiny increase in overall speed.

If you're going to overclock, you'll probably get bigger speed increases with memory that isn't already overclocked, such as PC17000, 2133MHz modules made with PC12800, 1333MHz chips hiding under the heatsinks (a real product).

Every little helps.

why not run at 2133mhz instead of 1600 at the dame tight timings if you can.
