Benidorm for a lads holiday?

Bunch of mates are planning a holiday to Benidorm next year and I've been asked if I'd like to go.

Although I enjoy a drink now and then I'm not down the pub every weekend getting smashed and although I've never been to Benidorm before I hold the impression it's like Ibiza and Magaluf.

Groups of younger generations getting wasted and barfing everywhere which without sounding like an old fart, I can't be bothered with.

Anyone been? What's it really like?
 
meh it's fine, Just think of Blackpool with sun, No Spanish culture what so ever but its not a typical Magaluf sort of place, more like a Magaluf lite :p

Just go and have fun

Ibiza, Magaluf, Zante, etc. consist of drunk, young Brits getting hammered and doing all the crazy stuff you can imagine. Benidorm is a bit of an older crowd. Obviously there are a lot of pubs and stuff, but I certainly wouldn't class it as a "lads holiday". It's more of a family holiday sort of place.

Yes, I've been to all of them. :o
 
Benidorm is for a totally different demographic than places like San Antonio Town or Magaluf. Definitely aimed at a slightly older crowd who still want to have a few pints.

If you've ever seen the TV programme it's actually not far off reality.

Think lots of theme pubs, Hi Ho Silver Lining on the karaoke, chip shops called the Codfather and in all fairness a pretty immaculate beach and promenade.

How big are these lads? Your regular lads or massive lads? Maybe it'll be fine if they're just regular-sized lads.

Expand your horizons and go to a nice European city like Barcelona, Berlin, Budapest, Prague, Vienna, Riga, Bratislava, Copenhagen etc etc.

I shudder at the thought that I used to go to the typical chav brit tourist destinations, I never really enjoyed it even when I was in my teens and wish I'd have done what I do now with my mates (all in early to mid-30's) where we go for weekend breaks to cities like I mentioned above and eat and drink like kings while actually getting a bit of local/cultural vibe. Not to mention get to meet and chat to the lovely local ladies instead of UK fag hags like you'd meet in Benidorm.

It's not as though Benidorm is going to be fantastically cheaper than any of those places, they can all be done on a budget.

I agree with Richdog.

Plus there is always plenty of nightlife in a good city. Like Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Amsterdam etc etc.
 
Benidorm is actually a lot nicer than you might expect.

Yes it does have a huge Brit centric heart with all that entails but it is my opinion definitely a step up from the likes of Malia , Magaluf and San Antonio.

However it is still in parts very Spanish the old town is really excellent some great Tapas bars , shopping etc.

Benidorm was indeed once the tacky resort of choice but in all honesty that was twenty even thirty years ago and it cleaned up its act a lot.

Part of what I say is because Benidorm is actually a massive resort and so manages to meet many peoples tastes, true it is no cultural mecca but I still like it.

You work or know people that work for a company beginning with WP?

And no I went a few weeks ago. There is the drunks and idiots but I would say that its actually better to go out on a night out there because the towns and cities here have far worse. For the price we paid to be honest if you go out for 3 nights it would be cheaper to stay there than here. Make sure you go to the union jack

If you are not that bothered about the lads and drinking thing, just go somewhere on your own. Being the sober one with a bunch of wasted mates is not a holiday.
 
I went about 10 years ago and it was one of the best lads holidays I have ever been on :)

Me and a few mates met a few beautiful Icelandic girls so maybe that played apart in it but it sure made the holiday a lot more fun.

The beech is really nice and you have so many places to eat but what we did find was don't eat on the beech front walk way , prices double , eat in the town more , lovely place , but I wouldn't say its a non stop party town like Ibiza ! its a lot more relaxed and a lot of old people around also , They have loads of older style bars and clubs with comedians on show.
