Hi all,

At the moment I have 2 drives. 1 raptor for windows + apps, and 1 360gig for movies, games, music etc. I never created a partition on the drive just created folder for the catorgories etc. Is it too late to do a partition now without losing the data? Also, what benifit would it give me?

Thanks

Richard

No you can still partition as long as you have some free space on your disk. Its a good idea to do some backups first, just in case.

You might find it easier to manage and find stuff if they are on different drives. C:\ for Windows. D:\ for music. E:\ for downloads etc.

And just to clarify things, I have a 74Gb Raptor for Windows + Apps and another disk for my other files, so in effect I have a physical partition.

Your large HDD for storage, simply by making individal folders on it for different types of data, these folders are acting like partitions do, ie, they are containing data within themselves, so really if your 360GB HDD is simply for storage I would not bother partitioning it (as these is no real benefit), just make a folder for each type of data you wish to store.

For my OS (Windows folder) and programs, I like to make a separate partition of around 10GB for XP, and 20GB for Vista, as I have found it is easier to "manage" (ie defragment etc), and also the performance is slightly better, my Documents folder is moved onto another part or HDD.

But really find out what works for you, as everybody whom you ask about partitioning will give you a different opinion on it. :)
