Benq and Multiple inputs....

For the last few months I've been happily using My BenQ FP241 WZ as an "all in one" device, i.e. connected to Skybox, PC and PS3. PC is connected via DVI, Sky Via S-Video, and PS3 through HDMI.

All is very lovely except if I leave the PC on and power up the PS3, switching inputs to HDMI, all I get is a blue screen... if I have the PC off, or unplug it from the monitor, all is fine, and the HDMI works via the input select and the PS3 displays as normal. Is this just a case of DVI taking precedence over HDMI and shutting it down (and therefore things are as they should be) being that the monitor cannot accept two digital signals at once, or is there a problem ?

Not a major worry, the monitor's great, I'm just curious.

cant say I've noticed a difference with HDMI, although component generally seems sharp (putting this down to the fact that it is 'analogue' in terms of my sky box just being standard and non hd)

Doesnt really bother me if i sit on my sofa to watch tv rather than my computer desk which is what the monitor is on...

Ah but it does accept 2 signals for PiP - one digital and one Analogue, i.e. I can Use PC on Dvi and Sky over S-Video... its when there are two digital signals, i.e. DVI-D/HDMI that the HDMI is blocked.

Might give Benq a ring and query it.

Will let you know what I find out.

Edit: Have posted a tech query via their email system. If I don't get any joy with that I'll phone them, but I'd rather avoid a phone bill if the answer is straghtforward.

This Is what I got from BenQ support in an email this morning on the matter.

Dear Mr. Mcconville,

Thank you for contacting BenQ Support and my apologies for the late replay.
I was informed by our Product Specialist that it is not possible to use 2 digital inputs at the same time with this monitor.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

I can live with this, as it would appear that it is as I suspected. No big deal, just glad my monitor isnt broken :D

I like yourself am running 60/40 brightness /contrast - seems to work very well. Otherwise I just have the screen on standard mode. I run at 1920x1200 in windows and have the Display set to Full rather than 1:1 pixel mapping. I find that 1:1 screws up my analogue input (i.e. tv). In order to get around the above dilemma, I have got myself a DVI-HDMI cable and a 3 way HDMI switch so I will connect the PC/ps3 up using that and see what happens (and of course report back.)
