BenQ EW2420

I read that one as well. The review seems fairly negative whereas the conclusions sound more positive. A bit confusing.

Fearing the chassis might look really cheap IRL compared to Samsung PX2370 which I am also considering... That one lacks the VA though and is more expensive.

For me, both counts. I don't want to have something cheap-looking sitting on my desk when I've spent premium money getting a beautiful aluminium lian li pc chassis.

You're right though, £100 premium is a bit on the steep side.

Yes indeed. I think what you really need to go with that is a sleek OLED monitor combining elegant glass and aluminium throughout with an 'invisible' bezel. :p

But then it won't be so much a £100 premium, but a £100 premium plus an arm, a leg, a kidney, your house, car and possibly dog too :)

On the back of PCM2's experience with the BenQ, I am again leaning towards the Samsungs. Looks like the PX2370 will get my sterlings.

One last route I am considering is a larger monitor, like 27''... However, a decent 1920x1200 is quite expensive so I was wondering if a a normal 1080p 27'' is worth considering. The one I have been looking at is the Samsung P2770H or P2770HD (what is the difference anyway?).

Any tips here would be welcomed...

The difference is that the 'HD' has a built in TV tuner. If I were you I would wait for the P2770FH to land - it is supposed to be really responsive. Problem is I haven't ever tested a 27 inch Samsung monitor so I can't give advice. What I would say is that the PX2370 is one of the nicest looking Samsung monitors but you're paying for style over substance - the more I have been using similar monitors and novel panel types the more I agree that it's simply too much to spend on a 23 inch TN panel.

P2770FH is likely to be priced above P2770H (I don't need a TV tuner). I am not sure I would like to pay a premium for 1ms response instead of 2ms (which is pretty damn quick as well, right?).

Is there any other incentive to choose the FH model?

Basically, the PX2370 is priced at the same level as P2770H...

The quoted responsive times can be safely ignored on both models - I found some Japanese thread that compared them and said that the FH was a bit faster in their tests. It was quite vague though and in reality the difference is probably negligible. I think with the PX2370 you're really paying a premium for the looks. I am not debating that as far as TN panels go it's a good one - I've tested its close counterpart the XL2370 and it was very impressive. Things have moved on a bit since then but the price hasn't reflected this and it still masquerades as a premium monitor.
