Hey Folks,

Have just recieved the BenQ FP214W and am very pleased with it overall. I have however a reservation that I would welcome your opinions on.

I have noticed that the monitor is lighter in one side than the rest of the panel. It is most noticable with dark/black images but is also evident as slightly washed out colors at other times. This is only a problem when sat in line with the centre of the monitor (as one would under normal use) - if I position my head in line with the lighter side the problem goes away (at that side).

Is this a problem with the monitor or a limitation of the flat panel technology at this size and resolution.

Here's a couple of piccys of my perceived problem. The pictures are taken in a dark room with a high ISO so appologies for the graininess/noise.

Any thoughts? Should I be looking to exchange the monitor?

that's what's known as backlight bleed. It MIGHT get better after a few days (some people report that with backlight probs) but if it doesn't i think you should RMA it because that's pretty bad.

Yup, tried all sorts of combos of contrast, brightness, colors etc - all with little effect. I have yet to use any connection other than DVI-D

@snow patrol - Just for my understanding how does this get better - should I be looking to soak/stress test the panel somehow?

not entirely sure. Just give it some normal heavy usage and judge it in 2-3 days. I remember a lot of people with the same monitor i currently have saying their backlight problems decreased significantly after a short time. And if yours doesn't, then you'll still be able to RMA it no probs.

spose it can't hurt running some 'stuff' over the w/e to see if this helps - tnx for the suggestion

Have yet to speak to BenQ tech sup as well which may help, you never know ...... but not holding my breath ;)

From all my pre purchase research not one review has mentioned this as a problem with the FP241W so hopefully the issue will be recognised and sorted within a week or two ...

Would still be interesting to hear from others that have had a similar issue ...
