BenQ FP241W 24" Question...

Hi guys,

Received the monitor last week and have to admit, it's really good. I haven't got anything major wrong with the monitor just something that I have noticed and wondered if anyone else that had the same monitor experienced the same problem and how they solved it...

Basically, when I boot my current system... my monitor (Using DVI port) will say "No Signal Detected" and stay in standby till the last minute then windows are about to start. I won't have any information you would normally see when you boot the system and you can't see the bios settings if you wanted too. With my old 19" monitor, I never had this problem!

I've looked through the manual and can't see anything that can't help me, so I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this kind of problem and how you managed to solve it.

Besides this, this monitor is excellent! :)

Current System:
GFX: X800XT PE
MB: Asus A8V Deluxe

Have one myself and no such problem

I usually power on before switching comp. on and order is :-

1. See purple BenQ screen (as far as I can remember I believe that it says "no signal" - am at work now so cannot check ; will do so tonight unless you've found the answer)
2.Switch comp on and monitor detects Dvi signal.(couple of seconds only)

I do see Bios screen .

You might try switching your monitor of after it is up and running ; to switch back on again and see how long it takes to find the running signal.

I'm still experiencing the same problem.

I've tried switching monitor off, before reboot and then just when machine is startup... I'll switch monitor on and I'll get a BenQ purple screen, then 'No Signal Detected' and then it'll turn to standby, until windows is about to start. If I leave monitor on, reboot and then I'll get 'No Signal Detected' and then standby until windows is about to come on.

What do you reckon i should do? Any settings I should be using... I'm using the DVI-D port.

Could the gfx causing the delay for the monitor to react or do you think the monitor is faulty?

Just checked and it functioned as I thought it did.

I am using DVI-Port as well.

As only owned a few days have not altered any of the monitors settings except to reduce brightness & contrast a little.

Would be surprised if it's your graphics card causing the problem.

Can you try the monitor in a system that you know is good? Same with Gpu?

p.s. have just re-read your answer @6.45 not sure when you switched on & off & on again. Sorry if I've misunderstood your answer But what I suggested you try is:-

1. Switch on as normal .Wait until all working i.e. Windows up & running and screen working properly; THEN
2. Switch monitor ONLY off, leave a couple of seconds : THEN
3. Switch monitor back on and watch what steps , if any , it goes through before it finds windows again(and how long it takes to find it)

Just tried it with mine and have an idea what to expect

I'll get a BenQ purple screen appear for a 1-2 secs, then the normal desktop will show then a small window will appear saying 'DVI-D'.

I did find out that there was an issue with ATI cards with users experiencing some issues with their monitors (BenQ FP241W) and it mainly came from ATI users.

Agedidiot, What type of gfx you have?

I have my new system arriving soon, it will be another week or so, till the rest of the computer will arrive... which I will have a Nvidia 8800GTX.

What about connecting my laptop to the monitor?

Have never done this myself so no idea - but if your laptop is able to output via DVi-D to another monitor cannot see a problem . ( would stress I am no electrical engineer/computer specialist so don't take my word on this!!)

Just ran a test through laptop and I didn't get the info I wanted... had to use the D-Sub instead and didn't work that well. Instead, I did try running the D-Sub into my monitor, and I did get the dos/bios information, which proves that the DVI-D, ATI gfx and BenQ monitor has an issue... the monitor itself can't stand ATI.

I'll know more as soon as I get my Nvidia card. I'm unable to borrow one so I'll need to wait until my rest of the system I've ordered arrives soon so I can test it.

the ati x800 does have an issue with dvi not displaying on monitor until windows boots. doesnt effects all monitors but a vast majority. Any newer ati card wont have a problem.
